Samsung is planning to discontinue integration with Microsoft OneDrive for photo and video storage in the new version of its One UI 8.5 software interface. According to Android Authority, this is evidenced by data from an analysis of the Gallery app APK file, which revealed lines of code with a message about the end of support for this feature.

For several years, Galaxy smartphone users have been able to sync media files to OneDrive directly from Gallery. Now, Samsung is preparing to move to its own cloud solution, Samsung Cloud. This move is in line with the general trend in the industry, where manufacturers are looking to strengthen their ecosystem of their own services.

It is currently unknown when OneDrive will be shut down. The app code uses the phrase "ending soon," but no specific dates are given. The company is expected to give users advance notice and give them time to migrate their data. It remains to be seen how existing backups will be migrated and what storage options — free or paid — Samsung will offer on its own service.

In addition to the cloud storage changes, One UI 8.5 is expected to include other innovations. A recent leak of images of the new interface showed how the appearance of standard Samsung apps will change. In particular, changes are expected in the "Phone" app, "Settings", "Galaxy Themes", "Device Care" and others.
