GeForce RTX 4000 graphics cards will receive Smooth Motion frame generation technology

- 19 August, 10:35 AM

NVIDIA has introduced Smooth Motion at Gamescom, a new driver feature that allows for system-level frame generation for GeForce RTX 4000 series graphics cards. It will be available in beta at the end of August via the NVIDIA app, TechRadar reports.

Smooth Motion works on the principle of Frame Generation technologies, using the hardware capabilities of tensor cores to predict and insert intermediate frames. This allows you to improve the smoothness of game playback even when the project does not support NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation. In its idea, it is an alternative to AMD Fluid Motion Frames, on Radeon graphics cards.

The company notes that the technology works best in the 60-120 frames per second range, where maintaining low latency and the absence of noticeable artifacts are especially important. Smooth Motion is integrated directly into the driver, so players don't have to wait for updates from specific game developers.

For now, the feature is limited to the RTX 4000 series, although NVIDIA has previously received criticism from RTX 3000 users for not supporting the new features. The company did not specify whether it is considering adding Smooth Motion to previous generations of graphics cards.

The company also announced the launch of new servers for the GeForce Now cloud gaming service powered by RTX 5080 with 48 GB of memory and DLSS 4 support.
