Apple is preparing to compete with Meta and is developing its own smart glasses. According to Bloomberg, the company is working on two generations of the gadget in parallel. The second-generation model will have a built-in display and will be able to work in two modes — depending on the connected device.

In his Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman reported that a future version of Apple's glasses will be able to run a full version of the visionOS operating system when connected to a Mac, and switch to a simplified, more mobile-friendly interface when synced with an iPhone.

Apple's smart glasses will compete with the Ray-Ban Meta, which already has a version with a display in the lens and costs $799 in the US. At the same time, Gurman previously noted that the first generation of Apple glasses will not have such a feature.

The company's first smart glasses will be equipped with speakers for listening to music, cameras for photos and videos, voice control, and may also receive health monitoring functions.

Gurman previously said that Apple could introduce the first generation of glasses as early as 2026, and release them on the market in 2027.

Recall that Apple is preparing to release new iPad Pro, MacBook Pro, and Vision Pro — all of them will be equipped with the M5 chip.
