Sony announced that as of June 30, 2025, total PlayStation 5 sales had reached 80.3 million units. This puts the console on par with the Xbox 360 (84 million) and closer to the PS3 (87 million), although it is still far from the PS4's record (over 117 million).
In the first quarter of the fiscal year, the company sold 2.5 million PS5s, which is 100 thousand more than in the same period in 2024. In total, 65.9 million games were sold for PS4 and PS5, of which 6.9 million were Sony exclusives. Digital versions accounted for 83% of total sales, confirming the trend of abandoning physical media.
The number of active PlayStation Network users increased to 123 million, up 7 million from last year. Revenue from the gaming segment reached ¥936.5 billion ($1.02 billion), up 127% from 2024.
Despite the setbacks with live services, Sony continues to invest in the PS5 ecosystem. The company has stepped up its involvement in esports projects, signing deals with Bandai Namco (Tekken 8) and the VALORANT Champions Tour through the INZONE brand.
The PS5 will be five years old in November. If sales continue at this pace, the console has a chance to reach the landmark 100 million unit mark — like the PS4 did in 5 years and 7 months.
By the way, the first insider tips about the PlayStation 6 are already appearing online. Sony's new console may have three times the performance and at the same time will have the same price of $499.
