Opera has released a new paid browser built around the capabilities of artificial intelligence agents, Neon. It was shown back in May of this year. According to the company, the new browser goes beyond the usual chat with AI and can perform various tasks, such as writing code.
One of the new features of Neon is Task, a new way to organize and work in a single context. It’s a dedicated workspace that understands context and uses artificial intelligence to analyze, compare, and execute tasks across multiple sources simultaneously.
Opera says users can think of Neon as a "mini-browser" for each task, where the AI understands what they're doing and helps in that context, without accessing other information in the browser.
Another Neon feature is Cards, reusable instructional prompts that users can use and combine. The company describes this feature as a deck of favorite AI behaviors, ready to use when they’re needed.
Possible uses include planning dinner, including a list of necessary products, searching for work information, preparing for meetings, etc. Users will be able to customize their own Cards with the necessary actions so that the AI can quickly start performing tasks without having to make a request each time.
In addition, Opera Neon has a fully agentless browsing mode. Thanks to the Neon Do feature, the browser can open new tabs, close others, and perform actions between them, always working in the context of a Task.
The company notes that Neon Do works in your browser, not just in the cloud. When users activate Neon Do through Task, the AI starts working in a browser session where users are already logged in. This removes the need to share passwords with cloud services or repeat authentication processes.
All browsing happens locally, visually, and in real time. Users can pause, manage, or take control at any time. It's like having an assistant sitting right at your computer with you, rather than accessing your accounts.
Opera says Neon is a premium browser for power users. That's why it requires a monthly subscription of $19.99 per month. Early adopters will get access soon, and you can join the waitlist on the official website.
