OpenAI has signed an agreement with the US General Services Administration (GSA) under which federal agencies will receive access to ChatGPT Enterprise for just $1 per agency for a year, TechCrunch reports.

The proposal comes a day after GSA added OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic to its list of approved AI vendors for civilian agencies, making their tools available through the MAS system, a dedicated platform that allows government agencies to use AI without having to negotiate with each vendor individually.

GSA Commissioner Josh Gruenbaum has urged Google and Anthropic to follow OpenAI’s lead and work with the government. It is unclear whether the companies will offer similar terms.

In addition to basic access to ChatGPT Enterprise, OpenAI provides agencies with unlimited use of its advanced models for an additional 60 days, and also provides government employees with access to a community of government users and educational materials on using OpenAI tools.

Data security remains a key issue in the dialogue between AI vendors and the US government. The GSA is demanding guarantees that sensitive information will not be included in the training sets of the models. OpenAI, in turn, assures that it will comply with all security rules for government users.

OpenAI's proposal comes after the Trump administration unveiled a new AI strategy, which includes expanding data centers and deepening the integration of AI into government processes.
