OpenAI has introduced Study Mode for ChatGPT, which helps users solve problems step by step, rather than just getting a ready-made answer. The company says the feature is now available for ChatGPT Free, Plus, Pro, and Team users, and will be available for ChatGPT Edu in the coming weeks.
In the new ChatGPT mode, interactive prompts combine questions, hints, and self-reflection tasks to stimulate learning. The answers are divided into convenient blocks that show how topics are related to each other. The mode adapts to the user, taking into account their level and previous chats. You can also take short tests to consolidate knowledge.
OpenAI says the new mode is designed for students to learn, not just copy. But it can be turned on and off by the user, so it's up to the user. There's currently no way for parents or teachers to force students to stay in this mode.
The developers created Study Mode based on special instructions that were formed together with teachers, scientists and pedagogical experts. This approach allows you to quickly take into account student feedback and improve the bot's work. In the future, OpenAI plans to add visualizations, setting learning goals between chats, and deeper personalization.
Thus, OpenAI aims to transform ChatGPT from a quick-response tool into a full-fledged digital tutor that helps you learn the material more deeply.
By the way, OpenAI is not the first company to launch tools for learning. In April, Anthropic introduced Learning mode for its AI Claude. Google also recently added new tools for students: AI Mode appeared in search with Canvas mode for creating educational materials, and NotebookLM can make video presentations with voiceover.
