Neuralink Musk said that 12 patients have been using brain implants for a total of 2,000 days
Neuralink, Elon Musk's neuro-implant company, said that 12 people around the world are currently using its devices. The chips have a combined operating time of 2,000 days and more than 15,000 hours.
The first Neuralink patient, Noland Arbo, recently spoke publicly about his experience after receiving the implant after a paralyzing injury. Thanks to the device, he can once again play video games and learn languages.
The company performed its first surgeries outside the U.S. in late August and early September at a Canadian clinic called University Health Network. The study is testing whether the implants can help people with paralysis control devices with their thoughts.
In July, Neuralink also received approval from British regulators to conduct trials as part of the GB-PRIME study, which aims to test how paralyzed patients can interact with digital technology through implants.
Neuralink has received FDA approval for testing in 2023. Musk has stated that in the future the company aims to reduce the cost of implants and the procedure for their installation to several thousand dollars.
