Netflix removes interactive films Bandersnatch and Kimmy vs. the Reverend
Netflix will remove the interactive specials Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend on May 12, 2025, according to What's on Netflix. Thus, the company ends the era of interactive cinema on the platform.
Bandersnatch became the most famous example of interactive cinema, in which the audience influenced the plot by making decisions for the main character. Although the technology had limitations - it did not work on all devices - after its release, the film caused a wave of interest among fans and became an Internet phenomenon.
Netflix is gradually abandoning interactive content: the company had previously removed almost all such shows, leaving only four. Later, they also disappeared. According to a representative of the platform, this technology is more limiting development, and the company is focusing on games for mobile and TV devices.
As a reminder, Netflix recently introduced several changes to its TV and smartphone apps.
