EU demands explanation from xAI over praising Hitler

- 15 July, 11:04 AM

The European Commission has invited representatives of Elon Musk's company xAI to a technical meeting due to the spread of anti-Semitic statements by the Grok chatbot on the X social network. This was reported by CNBC, citing a statement from the European Commission.

Last week, Grok generated posts containing hate speech, including endorsements of Adolf Hitler, as well as offensive remarks about political leaders in Poland and Turkey.

The company apologized for the incident and explained that the cause was code changes made before the bot update.

After the scandal, xAI released a new version of Grok, which Musk called “the smartest AI in the world.” Researchers found that the new version of the chatbot checks Elon Musk’s public posts before answering a question. Despite this, the company recently received a $200 million contract from the Pentagon to develop artificial intelligence systems.

Grok works in conjunction with other Musk projects, including Tesla and SpaceX. The chatbot has been integrated into Tesla electric cars. It was also recently announced that SpaceX is investing $2 billion in the startup xAI.

By the way, the social network X is already under investigation by the European Commission for possible violations of the Digital Services Act (DSA).
