Monster Hunter Wilds has nearly 1 million players on PC two hours after release

- 28 February, 12:42 PM

On February 28, another action role-playing game developed and published by the Japanese company Capcom – Monster Hunter Wilds – was released. Less than two hours after the release, the number of players on Steam almost reached the 1 million mark.

According to SteamDB, Monster Hunter Wilds was played by 987,482 people in the second hour of its release. This immediately raised the game to the eighth place among the projects with the largest simultaneous online traffic in history, above Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, Baldur's Gate 3 and others. The only game that has overtaken Capcom's new project in the last 24 hours is Counter-Strike 2.

Despite the large number of players, the launch of Wilds cannot be called a success so far. On Steam, the game has mixed reviews based on over 3 thousand comments, where many players complain about optimization and bugs, which were complained about during the beta in November. At the same time, on consoles, such problems do not seem to exist.

"Absolutely terrible performance considering how the game looks. It runs even worse than the beta. For comparison, I could run the beta at a comfortable 60-70 frames per second on high settings, usually higher. Now I'm getting less than 50 on medium settings with noticeable drops. The game doesn't look good enough to justify this performance," one player wrote.

Monster Hunter Wilds is the sequel to 2018's Worlds. Like its predecessor, the game is a third-person action-adventure game where players take on the role of a Hunter traveling through the desolate "Forbidden Lands." Despite the absence of humans, these lands are home to a number of monsters that must be defeated in order to find the missing expedition group.

Despite the optimization issues that players have pointed out, Wilds has generally received very positive reviews from reviewers. On Metacritic, the game has an average score of 90 based on 78 reviews, and on Opencritic, it has a score of 89.

In addition to PC, the game is also available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Including players on consoles, Capcom's new project has definitely surpassed the 1 million player mark.
