Microsoft is adding Copilot Chat to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote for all Microsoft 365 enterprise subscribers. These apps will feature a new sidebar that will help you transcribe texts, analyze spreadsheets, and quickly generate presentations without a separate Copilot subscription.

According to Seth Patton, general manager of product marketing for Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Chat is "a secure AI chat that understands the content of the current file and tailors responses to it."

The free version can:

  • rewrite and summarize Word documents ;
  • create slides and present images in PowerPoint;
  • analyze Excel workbooks with explanations of formulas;
  • summarize and compose emails in Outlook;
  • Paste content from OneNote and quickly search for related files via the ContextIQ menu.

A paid Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription ($30 per month per user) will still provide advanced features. It gives you access to faster and more stable performance even during peak hours, allows you to upload large files, generate images, and use more powerful GPT-5 models.

Microsoft emphasizes that the Copilot Chat integration will not impact subscription prices for now and will provide basic AI features to all Microsoft 365 users. In October 2025, the company plans to integrate Copilot for sales, service, and finance into the Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription, reducing costs for business customers who actively use AI.
