Microsoft has announced important changes to its Authenticator app.
Starting in June 2025, the app will no longer be able to save passwords, autofill passwords in July, and saved passwords will be inaccessible in August. This means that all generated passwords will be deleted, and saved passwords and autofill will only be accessible through the Microsoft Edge browser. Authenticator will continue to support access keys.
Users are advised to back up all passwords to avoid losing access to important accounts such as email and banking services. In addition, all payment information will also be removed from the app starting in July.
Microsoft also recommends using alternative password managers, such as Google Password Manager or iCloud Keychain, to autofill passwords.
