Meta, the owner of social networks and services such as Facebook, Instagram, Threads and the WhatsApp messenger, has blocked Apple Intelligence from its platforms. Users can no longer use Writing Tools and other tools, 9to5Mac reports.
Apple Intelligence features, introduced in June 2024 and released with iOS 18.1, include tools like Writing Tools for generating text, Genmoji for creating animated emoji, and many more. However, none of these tools currently work on Meta platforms, including Facebook and Threads.
Instagram has also removed the ability to add keyboard stickers and Memoji to stories, which was present for a long time. Typically, all Apple Intelligence features work in apps on iPhone and iPad by default, but some developers, as in the case of Meta, can disable them for their apps.
Meta has not commented on its decision to disable Apple's AI features in its own services, but it could be due to the company's desire to promote its own AI features, including Meta AI. The two companies have also previously faced disagreements when Apple refused to use Llama's open-source models for Apple Intelligence due to its privacy policy.
As a reminder, Meta is currently fighting a lawsuit initiated by the US Federal Trade Commission, which could lead to the separation of Instagram and WhatsApp.
