Meta has announced a partnership with AI-powered image and video generation startup Midjourney, according to Meta’s chief artificial intelligence officer Alexander Wang in a post on Threads, according to TechCrunch. The companies have agreed to license Midjourney’s technologies, which will be integrated into future Meta products and models.

According to Wang, Meta is committed to bringing in the best technology and talent to ensure its AI products are competitive. The deal with Midjourney should strengthen Meta’s position to compete with companies like OpenAI (Sora model), Black Forest Lab (Flux), and Google (Veo).

Meta has previously launched its own image generation tools (Imagine) and video (Movie Gen), which are integrated into Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger. In 2025, the company also invested $14 billion in Scale AI, acquired voice startup Play AI, and actively recruited AI researchers from other companies, offering compensation of up to $100 million.

Midjourney, a startup founded in 2022, quickly gained popularity thanks to its realistic style of image creation. The company predicted $200 million in revenue in 2023. The cost of a subscription to its services starts at $10 per month, and premium plans go up to $120. In April, Midjourney released a new image generation model, the V7, the first model in which personalization is enabled by default. Later, in June 2025, the company introduced its first video model, the V1. Midjourney founder David Holtz said that the company remains independent and has no external investors.

The terms of the agreement between Meta and Midjourney are not being disclosed at this time.
