Luminar, an AI-powered photo editor created by Ukrainian company Skylum, became available on Android and ChromeOS thanks to a partnership with Google. In June 2024, the app appeared on iPhone.
Skylum CEO Ivan Kutanin notes that cooperation with Google is an important step in the company's mission to make AI tools accessible to the widest possible range of people.
“By releasing Luminar on Android, we’re showcasing our greatest strengths: professional-grade imaging technologies powered by an intuitive and engaging interface. It’s this combination that fuels the creative drive, giving every photographer the confidence and inspiration to tell new visual stories,” says Kutanin.
Google Strategic Partnerships Manager Maria Schmidt also commented on the collaboration and noted that the company is excited to partner with Skylum to bring new photo editing tools to Android and ChromeOS.
Among Luminar's main AI features is Enhance AI, which adjusts about ten parameters with a single slider, including highlights, shadows, contrast, and exposure. With Structure AI, images can be made clearer and more detailed, and Relight AI will give you full control over photo lighting.
Other AI-based features also include Atmosphere AI for adding effects, Sky AI for replacing the sky, Skin AI for smoothing and removing skin imperfections, and Body AI for changing body shape.
In addition to AI, Luminar also offers regular image editing tools, such as Develop for adjusting exposure, temperature, hue, shadows, and more. Essential Tools let you remove objects, enhance landscapes, and add a monochrome effect. The app also has a collection of film-style filters and nostalgic tones.
Luminar: Photo Editor is available for download on Google Play. The app offers a free seven-day trial, after which a subscription is required for UAH 123.99 per month. There is also a discount on the annual subscription for UAH 745.99.
