Apple has announced that the Live Translation feature, introduced during the announcement of the AirPods Pro 3, will also be available for previous models — AirPods 4 with ANC and AirPods Pro 2. This is reported by MacRumors.
To use the new feature, you need the latest firmware for AirPods and iPhone with Apple Intelligence support and the iOS 26 operating system.
Live Translation is designed to make it easier for people who speak different languages to communicate. You can speak normally and the translation will appear on your iPhone screen or play in real time through your headphones. If both people are wearing compatible AirPods, the feature works even better: noise cancellation will automatically lower the volume of the original speech, allowing you to hear the translation better.
At launch, the service supports translations between English (British and American), French, German, Portuguese (Brazilian), and Spanish. By the end of the year, Apple promises to add Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese (Simplified) to this list.
