During the first days of iPhone 17 sales, some buyers and journalists noticed scratches on the new smartphone models. Bloomberg writes that blue iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, as well as black iPhone Air, displayed in stores in Hong Kong, Shanghai and London, showed signs of damage within a few hours of the start of sales.
In China, the issue quickly became a topic of discussion on social media, with photos of scratched smartphones trending on Weibo, where the hashtag garnered over 40 million views.
The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max return to an aluminum body, while the previous two generations had titanium. Apple said the new coating has become more resistant to damage, but aluminum is known for its susceptibility to scratches, especially in dark colors. For the iPhone 17 Pro, the darkest shade is blue, this model is not available in black.
Despite these reports, demand for the iPhone 17 remains high. Many countries are already experiencing shortages, and delivery times for the Pro Max are up to four weeks. In Hong Kong, only the iPhone Air models were available to customers on launch day, while other versions had to be ordered online. In South Korea, the iPhone 17 Pro can be received in a week, while the Pro Max will not be available until late October.
As for Ukraine, Apple's new products can be pre-ordered now, and sales of the devices will begin in a week — September 26, 2025.
