The iPhone 17 lineup, which will be released in an eSIM-only version in even more countries this year, will finally take advantage of the lack of a physical slot. According to PCMag, Apple will use the freed-up space to increase battery capacity.

The find was shared by insider ShrimpApplePro, who discovered the battery capacity in a register with Chinese regulators.

The iPhone 17 will be the fourth generation of Apple smartphones without a physical SIM slot, but the first to use it for other purposes. The eSIM-only iPhone 17 Pro version will have an 18% larger battery capacity than the iPhone 16 Pro — 4252 mAh versus 3582 mAh.

At the same time, the iPhone 17 Pro version with a physical slot will have a battery with a capacity of 3988 mAh. As for other models, in particular the iPhone 17, so far there are only reports of the standard version, which will have a capacity of 3692 mAh, more than the 3561 in the iPhone 16.

The thinner iPhone 17 Air with eSIM in the US will have a battery capacity of 3149 mAh, while in other markets the capacity will be smaller — 3036 mAh.

You will be able to learn more about the technical specifications of Apple's new smartphones on September 9, 2025, when the official presentation of the new products will take place.
