Instagram is launching a new rewards program for the platform's top creators, "Rings." The company will award the 25 most popular creators with a gold ring and add a corresponding badge to their profile.

The winners will be selected by a jury consisting of Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri, director Spike Lee, designer Marc Jacobs, and YouTuber Marques Brownlee, better known as MKBHD.

The awards come after Instagram closed its creator rewards program and reduced brand deals, and the platform will only award a gold ring with no financial support.

MKBHD notes that this award is more about "special visibility and a kind of incentive for people." Because of this, it will also choose creators who put the most effort into their work, not just those with the most followers.

At the same time, 25 winners will have the opportunity to change the background color of their profile and customize the Like button.

Meta shut down its Reels Play rewards program, which was a key source of revenue for many creators on Instagram and Facebook, in 2023. In 2024, Mosseri said the company was looking into other compensation options, but no announcements were made. What’s more, content creators saw a sharp 52% drop in brand deals in 2024, so the decision to reward creators with rings rather than cash may seem a bit controversial.
