In late July, Sony filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Tencent over a game called Light of Motiram that was too similar to the Horizon series. According to The Game Post, after that, the game's description, screenshots, posters, and other materials in online stores began to be actively changed.
Light of Motiram is being developed by Tencent subsidiary Polaris Quest. The game was first introduced in late November 2024. It immediately caused a lot of discussion online because it copied many elements of Horizon Zero Dawn, which was released on PlayStation 4 back in February 2017. Among the similarities were both the concept itself - a post-apocalyptic world divided into tribes - and large walking robots.
Following a lawsuit from Sony, in which the company said it had denied Tencent a contract to work on the next Horizon, prompting the Chinese giant to create its own clone, the Light of Motiram Steam page has undergone significant changes. The obvious ones include the game's description, screenshots, cover art, and most importantly, a new release window.
The original description for Light of Motiram mentioned a large open world, reminiscent of primeval times, with the only signs of technology being giant robots. The new version of the description emphasizes the need to strategically use the environment to survive and fight powerful bosses.
They also removed several screenshots of the game that looked almost identical to Horizon. The main cover was also replaced with a completely different image that hardly resembles Sony's project.
As for the release, the game page previously stated “Coming soon,” but now the developers have announced that the exact date will not be announced until the fourth quarter of 2027. Presumably, the Polaris Quest team will need more time to change all the elements that could cause legal claims from Sony.
