Google has launched a new Video Overviews feature in its NotebookLM AI assistant, which helps you work with notes and research materials.

This feature was first shown at the Google I/O developer conference in May. It allows you to convert complex multimedia files such as notes, PDFs, and images into understandable video presentations.

Video Overviews is a visual alternative to the previously available Audio Overviews feature, which creates podcasts with virtual AI hosts based on uploaded documents.

The new feature uses images, charts, quotes, and data from files to explain material more visually. Google says it's suitable for demonstrating processes, explaining complex or abstract topics, and working with data.

Users can customize video summaries to suit their needs: choose topics, set learning goals, describe the target audience. You can ask both simple questions and complex or specialized ones.

The feature is currently available in English. Support for other languages will be available later.

Incidentally, along with Video Overviews, Google has updated the Studio panel in NotebookLM. Users can now create and save multiple outputs of the same type within a single notebook. The top of the panel also features tiles for quick access to Audio Overviews, Video Overviews, Mind Maps, and Reports.
