Google has updated its AI-powered video generator Veo 3, adding support for 9:16 aspect ratio and higher resolutions. Users can now create vertical videos for mobile apps and social media, and set the quality to 1080p.
The company says the new features work in both Veo 3 and the faster version, Veo 3 Fast. Vertical video can be enabled via the aspectRatio parameter in API requests. 1080p support is currently only available for 16:9 video.
In June, Google announced the integration of Veo 3 with YouTube Shorts. Adding a vertical format for third-party apps opens up the possibility of such content appearing on other platforms, including TikTok and Instagram.
Google also announced that both models are now "stable and ready for scale" in the Gemini API. At the same time, the company has lowered prices: Veo 3 generation now costs $0.40 per second instead of $0.75, and Veo 3 Fast now costs $0.15 instead of $0.40.
