Google has unveiled a major update to Google Play focused on gaming. It will improve user profiles, make search easier, and add an AI-powered assistant so users can quickly get the information or tips they need right during a gaming session.
A new platform-wide gamer profile will make it easy to track stats and achievements across games and devices. Users will be able to see their overall performance, not just by game, and customize their profile with a generative AI-generated avatar.
Another major update is the Play Games Sidekick, an AI-powered in-game assistant. It’s an in-game window with a Gemini chatbot that you can open in any Play game. It provides tips and hints for gameplay, helps you find information, and quickly starts recording or broadcasting.
Google Play Games will also feature Game Detail Pages, where you can learn everything about a game before you install it: news, developer updates, and special offers. Once installed, it will display progress statistics, achievements, and other data. And starting next month, users will be able to leave their own tips and read tips from others.
In addition, Google Play Games on PC is finally coming out of beta and will soon be available to the general public. The service lets you install Android games on your PC and includes over 200,000 different projects. Pre-registration is available today.
Additionally, Google is adding a You Tab to Google Play that will bring all of the previous innovations together in one convenient place. Here, users will be able to check their rewards, subscriptions, recommendations, insights, and updates. You Tab will also combine relevant content from other apps and interests, such as audiobooks.
Google is now integrating artificial intelligence into app search. Now you can type in queries like "find a place to live," and the AI will suggest apps that can help you complete the task.
The update will be available in select regions this week, and will begin rolling out to more countries on October 1, 2025.
