Google has announced updates to TalkBack and Chrome that improve accessibility on Android. Now, visually impaired users will be able to ask Gemini questions about images and content on their screen. For example, the service will be able to describe a photo of a guitar or find a discount in an online store.

Expressive Captions also now supports intonation, recognizing drawn-out words and marking sounds like whistling or coughing. The feature is currently only available in English on Android 15 in the US, UK, Canada and Australia.

Chrome for PC also gets OCR support for scanned PDFs, which can now be read with a screen reader. And on Android, there’s a new Page Zoom feature that lets you resize text without changing the page layout.
