Framework has introduced the second generation of the 16-inch Framework Laptop 16 with two significant improvements — the ability to replace the graphics card in minutes and a 240W Type-C power adapter.
Framework is known for its laptops that allow you to customize almost everything, including the display and ports. Now, graphics are also included. The Framework Laptop 16 is available with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 graphics card, which provides 30-40% more gaming performance compared to the AMD Radeon RX 7700S. This AMD card, which was in the first generation of the Laptop 16, is now also available as a separate module.
For users who don't need that much performance, the company also offers an Expansion Bay Shell option, which doesn't include a graphics card and instead makes the laptop smaller and lighter and adds storage slots. Instead of graphics cards, the discrete graphics of the Ryzen AI 300 series processors, including the 8-core Ryzen AI 7 350 and the 12-core Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, will be used.
The GeForce RTX 5070 now supports image output and power via the rear USB-C port. As for the display, it has also received an update with NVIDIA G-SYNC support. Other specifications remain unchanged: the panel has a resolution of 2560×1600p and a frequency of 165 Hz. In addition, the laptop allows for memory expansion. Two DDR5-5600 slots provide up to 96 GB of RAM, and two M.2 slots provide up to 10 TB of storage.
A new 240W USB-C adapter with USB-PD 3.1 support is used to power the processor and graphics card. In addition, the laptop received a second-generation webcam, which first appeared in the Laptop 13.
All of the changes presented will also be available for the first generation Framework Laptop 16. The new laptop is now available for pre-order in both assembled and build-it-yourself versions with the RTX 5070 and a new power adapter, starting at $1,499.
