The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States has created a special 10-person team to investigate the arson of Tesla electric cars and charging stations, the New York Post reports.
The task force will include agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and agents from the FBI's Counterterrorism Division - the bureau defines these cases as "domestic terrorism."
The ATF is also sending officers to the local FBI office in San Antonio, Texas, where Molotov cocktails have been used.
Trump has vowed to crack down on Tesla arson attacks across the country, saying those responsible could face up to 20 years in prison. Three people have been arrested for setting fire to Tesla cars and charging stations. US Attorney General Pam Bondi also called the attacks “domestic terrorism” and said the suspects face serious punishment.
The bureau is also investigating an anarchist blog and tracking a mass protest called "Take Over Tesla," scheduled for March 29, which includes 500 demonstrations outside Tesla dealerships and charging stations .
