Epic Games ends antitrust dispute with Samsung
Epic Games, the developer of the game Fortnite, has announced the conclusion of its antitrust case against Samsung, TechCrunch reports.
The lawsuit was filed in September 2024, where Epic accused Samsung of collaborating with Google to restrict access to third-party app stores on Samsung devices. In particular, it was about the Auto Blocker feature, which blocked the installation of apps outside of Google Play and the Galaxy Store.
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney announced on July 7 on X Network that the company is closing the case against Samsung after negotiations between the parties. In his post, he expressed gratitude that Samsung took Epic's interests into account. Samsung has not yet commented on the statement.
The deal between the companies comes nearly a year after Epic launched its own mobile app store. Last year, the company had already won a separate antitrust case against Google in October 2024. At that time, the court ruled that Google must allow users to download third-party stores from the Play Store.
Google then appealed the court's decision to force the Play Store to open to third-party downloads, arguing that such a decision could pose security risks to Android.
