Google has asked a federal judge in California to suspend a decision that would force the company to open its Play Store app store to third parties. The company argues that such a decision could pose risks to Android security, Reuters reports.

Google went to court on October 11, 2024. The statement says that the order of U.S. District Judge James Donato, which will take effect on November 1, will harm the company and pose “serious risks to the safety, security, and privacy of the Android ecosystem.” Donato has now been asked to suspend the order while the company appeals.

Earlier, a US court recognized Google as an illegal monopoly in the field of app downloads in a case against Epic Games. The court ordered the company to give users the opportunity to download stores from other developers and not to prohibit these developers from using alternative payment methods.

If Judge James Donato denies the company’s request to suspend the order, it will re-apply to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco. However, it is now expected that the decision will be made in favor of the company.
