Elden Ring Nightreign, a three-player co-op roguelike survival action spin-off of the prequel Elden Ring, was released on May 29, 2025. According to SteamDB, the game had 313,593 concurrent players on Steam in just the first few hours after release.

In addition to PC, the game was also released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, so the total number of players who decided to try FromSoftware's new project is clearly higher. At the same time, despite a good start and co-op, Nightreign could not even come close to the main Elden Ring, which was played simultaneously by 953,426 players on Steam alone on the day of release.

At the same time, the co-op mode poses problems for Elden Ring Nightreign - due to the three-player limit, the game has received mixed reviews on Steam. Most often, users complain about random companions who are difficult to get along with, the inability to complete without voice chat, the lack of a two-player mode, and unbalanced gameplay in solo mode.

However, this is to be expected from an online game. Aside from the issues with companions and their necessity, Nightreign's reviews are generally good, though not particularly outstanding. On Metacritic, the game has an average critic score of 77, and on Opencritic, it has an average critic score of 80.

Reviews note that FromSoftware skillfully used the experiences and assets from Elden Ring, combining them with new ideas. The game is recommended for those who want to play a fast-paced cooperative souls-like, where game sessions last an average of 45 minutes. However, reviewers note that Nightreign is definitely not a replacement for Elden Ring.

RENEWAL:

FromSoftware announced on social media that Elden RIng Nightreign sold two million copies on its release day.
