Death Stranding movies will not follow the plot of the games, but instead will show original stories
A24's Death Stranding film, which was announced in late 2023, will not follow the plot of the games and instead tell an original story. Kojima Productions announced this during a broadcast in honor of the studio's decade, Eurogamer writes.
The film's director and screenwriter, Michael Sarnoski, known for "A Quiet Place: Day One," said that the film will focus on the story and introduce new characters.
"I think with this project we really want to capture the spirit of the game, capture its themes, but tell a story that you haven't seen in this world before, and explore characters that you haven't seen before, and find all these incredible real-world locations, and all these multifaceted characters, and just do it justice on a macro and micro scale," Sarnoski said.
In addition, the broadcast showed a trailer for the animated film Death Stranding, which has been given the working title Death Stranding Mosquito. As we wrote earlier, the film's screenwriter is Aaron Guzikowski, known for the TV series "Raised by Wolves" and the film "Captives".
Like the A24 film, the animated film will also feature an original story. The name Mosquito is related to one of the main characters, who has the ability to "take something from you" in the same way that a mosquito takes blood.
"I love the world of Death Stranding, it's so creatively free, so beautifully dark and yet so hopeful. I'm thrilled and honored that Hideo Kojima, whose work I've long admired, has invited me to join his creation to birth new stories in this fertile, imaginative universe," said Aaron Guzikowski.
In addition to updates on the Death Stranding movies, Kojima Productions also revealed a new teaser for the upcoming horror game OD, which the studio is developing in collaboration with Xbox, during the broadcast.
