Apple could significantly raise iPhone prices due to Trump tariffs

- 4 April, 09:00 AM

US President Donald Trump has raised tariffs on Chinese goods to 54%, which could significantly affect the price of the iPhone, as most Apple devices are made in China, Reuters reports.

According to analysts, if costs are passed on to buyers, smartphone prices could increase by up to 43%, and top models could cost up to $2,300.

Even the cheapest iPhone 16e will increase in price from $600 to $858, which is a risk against inflation. However, experts believe that Apple is unlikely to fully pass on the tariffs to consumers, and a significant price increase may only occur in the fall with the release of the iPhone 17.

Apple shares fell 9% after the tariff news, marking the company's worst performance since 2020. At the same time, the Trump administration has not yet granted Apple any exemptions, although during his first presidential term, the iPhone was exempt from tariff restrictions.

Apple is investing $500 billion in manufacturing in the US, including building a factory in Texas. However, experts believe that moving production to the US is unlikely due to high costs and a shortage of skilled labor. According to estimates by Wedbush Securities, only 10% of Apple's production could be moved to the US in three years, at a cost of $30 billion.

Analysts do not rule out that Apple may receive an exception, but for now the market expects a significant increase in prices, which could negatively affect demand.
