OpenAI is reporting record growth in the popularity of ChatGPT, which is set to reach 700 million weekly active users this week, TechCrunch reports.
According to the company's vice president, Nick Turley, the figure was 500 million at the end of March, and the audience has grown fourfold in a year. Turley emphasized that every day, people and teams use ChatGPT to learn, create, and solve complex problems.
The rapid growth in popularity is attributed to the appearance in March of an updated image generation function based on the GPT-4 model. This option quickly attracted users' interest: within a few days of its launch, they created more than 700 million images, and the number of people who took advantage of the new feature exceeded 130 million.
The paid business user base is also growing: last week, COO Brad Lightcup reported 5 million subscribers, up from 3 million in June.
According to analytics firm Sensor Tower, the average ChatGPT user logs into the app more than 12 days per month, a figure second only to Google and X. In the first half of 2025, the average usage time was 16 minutes per day, indicating high audience engagement.
Thus, ChatGPT remains one of the most popular consumer AI services, and OpenAI continues to actively develop its functionality and grow its audience.
