OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced that ChatGPT has reached 800 million weekly active users, indicating growing interest in the tool not only among regular users but also among developers, companies, and governments, TechCrunch reports.

Back in August, the company reported that it was on the verge of 700 million, while at the end of March the figure was 500 million.

Altman noted that 4 million developers are currently working with OpenAI, and over 6 billion tokens are processed per minute through the API. According to him, artificial intelligence has become a working tool that is used every day.

The announcement came at DevDay 2025, which also featured new tools for building ChatGPT applications and more complex agent systems, which Altman said will enable a new generation of interactive, personalized services.

Since its launch in November 2022, ChatGPT has seen unprecedented growth, becoming one of the fastest growing online services in history. ChatGPT recently launched a new feature, Pulse, which sends users personalized morning news.

Despite being a non-profit, OpenAI has become the world's most valuable private company after selling $6.6 billion in shares, raising its valuation to $500 billion. The company is also actively releasing new products, including an updated Sora video generator and an agent commerce platform in partnership with Stripe. OpenAI has also recently announced partnerships with AMD, NVIDIA, and Samsung.
