The Chinese company Cambricon Technologies, which positions itself as a competitor to NVIDIA , reported record financial results for the first half of 2025, CNBC writes.

The company’s revenue grew more than 4,000% year-on-year to 2.88 billion yuan ($402.7 million) and net profit reached 1.04 billion yuan ($145 million). Cambricon shares have more than doubled since the beginning of the year, boosting the company’s market capitalization to about $80 billion, according to S&P Capital IQ.

Cambricon is one of a number of Chinese companies trying to become an alternative to NVIDIA in the field of artificial intelligence. Demand for local development is growing amid the risks of being cut off from American technology. Earlier this year, NVIDIA was banned from selling its cut-down H20 chip to China. Although exports have partially resumed, the company must pay 15% of sales revenue in China to the US government, while Beijing is reportedly discouraging local firms from purchasing the processors.

Despite Cambricon's breakthrough, experts note that the technologies of Chinese manufacturers are still significantly lagging behind NVIDIA's developments. The strong position of the American giant is explained not only by the hardware, but also by the software tools that developers are accustomed to.

By the way, NVIDIA recently introduced the B30 AI chip and is requesting permission from the US to export it to China.
