Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Shadows has become the most successful new game in Europe in 2025. The game ranks second in sales in the region, second only to EA Sports FC 25, which was released in September 2024, The Game Business reports.
In total, 71 million PC and console games were sold in Europe as of July 28, 2025, down 6% from the same period in 2024. 52 million copies were digital versions of games, and 19.7 million were physical versions. Compared to last year, the decline is 3% and 9%, respectively.
Sam Nagy, lead analyst at GSD, which tracks games sales in Europe, says that in the first 19 weeks of 2025, spending on games fell 2% to €1.33 billion. Overall sales fell 9%. He attributes this to the fact that the average price of games this year has increased by 8%, to €29, compared to €27 in 2024.
At the same time, he notes that spending on digital games, on the contrary, increased by 8% due to the fact that the average cost of digital games increased by 15% - from €22 to €25. Spending on physical games decreased by 16%, and the cost of physical editions increased from €39 to €40.
In total, GSD shared a list of the 20 most popular games on the European continent. It is worth noting that the analytics company does not include digital sales of Nintendo games, as the Japanese game manufacturer does not share such information.
