Apple has introduced an updated version of the Vision Pro headset with a new M5 chip and Dual Knit Band.
The main improvement is the M5 chip, which accelerates data processing, improves the performance of AI-enabled features, and improves image quality. The new chip allows OLED displays to display 10% more pixels and increases the refresh rate to 120 Hz, while the previous maximum was 100 Hz. AI features such as Persona and 3D photos now work up to 50% faster.
The battery also got a boost of about 30 minutes: up to 2.5 hours with normal use and up to 3 hours with video playback.
The new Dual Knit Band combines the features of the Solo Knit and Dual Loop Band for a more comfortable fit. It comes in three sizes — S, M, and L — and features an adjustment dial for a precise fit. The band is sold separately for $99 and is compatible with the original Vision Pro with the M2 chip.
The appearance of the headset has not changed. Apple is focusing on improving the performance and functionality of the device, expanding its capabilities for working with AI and media. The update comes amid rumors that Apple is gradually shifting its focus from full-fledged headsets to "smart glasses."
The cost of the Vision Pro with the M5 chip remains unchanged at $3,499. The device will go on sale on October 22.
By the way, Apple updated the Vision Pro on the eve of the release of a competitor from Samsung — Project Moohan, the presentation of which the Korean company has scheduled for October 21.
