Anthropic, which creates the Claude chatbot and is one of OpenAI's main competitors in the field of artificial intelligence, is considering a new round of investment that could raise its market valuation to over $100 billion, Bloomberg reports.
Although the company has not officially started raising funding, venture capital funds are already approaching the startup with offers to invest at a higher valuation, several people familiar with the matter said, speaking on condition of anonymity. This practice, in which investors offer money upfront to leading AI players, has become commonplace in Silicon Valley.
If the deal goes through, it would be a significant step up from the previous $61.5 billion valuation that Anthropic received in early 2024 after raising $3.5 billion in a round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners.
The new talk of an investment in Anthropic comes amid soaring revenue growth from its Claude product, a chatbot that competes with ChatGPT. According to Bloomberg, the company's annual revenue has grown from $3 billion to $4 billion in the past month.
Anthropic was founded in 2021 in San Francisco by sibling Dario and Daniela Amodei. The company's investors include Amazon, Alphabet (Google's parent company), Menlo Ventures, Salesforce Ventures, and others.
