87% of video game developers use artificial intelligence tools, such as agents, to automate and speed up various tasks, according to a new study by Google Cloud, Reuters reports.

The study, conducted in conjunction with The Harris Poll, surveyed 615 developers from the United States, South Korea, Sweden, Finland, and Norway between late June and early July 2025.

Most respondents said that AI helps them automate repetitive tasks and allows them to focus on more creative tasks. About 44% of developers use agents to optimize content and quickly process information such as text, voice, code, audio, and video.

The study also shows that 94% of developers expect AI to reduce overall development costs in the long term. At the same time, about one in four respondents cannot clearly measure the ROI of AI investments. Meanwhile, the costs of integrating new technology are also quite high for an industry where game development is already becoming more expensive every year.

64% of developers expressed concerns about data ownership, as the legality of licensing content used to train large language models raises many doubts and even lawsuits, as in the case of Meta.

In addition, the introduction of artificial intelligence raises concerns about the possible loss of jobs for many specialists. In 2024 alone, more than 14,000 people were laid off in the gaming industry, and in 2025 this figure may be even higher.
