July this year promises to be a busy month for movie events, as we have new films and TV series to satisfy every taste. From long-awaited blockbusters to touching dramas and comedies, this list has something for everyone.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F
Axel Foley returns to Beverly Hills after the death of an old friend to investigate corruption in the police department. After his daughter’s life is threatened, she (Paige) and Foley team up with a new partner (Gordon-Levitt) and old friends Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton) to uncover the conspiracy.
Feel nostalgic, because the first part of Beverly Hills Cop, which made Eddie Murphy famous, was released 40 years ago! The first two parts are still a pleasure to watch, they are great movies. The third one is worse, but you can still watch it by inertia. And after a 30-year break, a new installment is coming out on Netflix. But was it worth creating it?
Of course, it’s nice to see Eddie Murphy and Judge Reingold back on screen, but they are over 60 years old. I doubt that at this age they will be able to surprise the audience during action scenes. Besides, in the original, the actors attracted with their energy, which may not be the case in the new part. And we already have a negative example of a classic sequel. In 2021, Eddie Murphy brought back another of his very popular projects called Trip to America. This sequel turned out to be mediocre, to put it mildly, and played more on the nostalgic feelings of the audience.
In general, if you have a Netflix subscription and like the previous installments, you can watch it. If it turns out to be something interesting, you’ll have a good time, and if not, you’re not missing out. Either way, the movie will make you feel nostalgic.
The premiere took place on July 3 on Netflix.
Despicable Me 4
The return of Illumination’s beloved animated hit Despicable Me to the big screen. A new stage of life begins for Gru and his girls, as they welcome a new family member – Gru Jr. who knows exactly how to annoy their dad. However, the heroes face a new challenge in the form of a dangerous enemy, so the family will face a grand confrontation full of humor and incredible adventures.
A new part of one of the most popular series of cartoons from Illumination. Despite the fact that the projects of this studio can hardly compete in terms of quality with Pixar or Dreamworks cartoons, this is a great option for a family trip to the cinema. Gru and his faithful henchmen have been consistently entertaining viewers of all ages for more than fifteen years, and everyone will find something interesting to watch. So if you are a fan of the previous installments or want to have fun with your family, we definitely recommend going!
The premiere in Ukraine took place on July 4.
The 100 Candles Game: The Last Possession
A team of influencer bloggers decides to perform a ritual at the mansion of the Black Countess. A fan of all things supernatural, she disappeared after being offered to play a game that was supposed to take her to another dimension. Summoning the Countess’s spirit, the heroes let otherworldly forces into the world. The one who can bring the demons back will survive.
Once again, we return to our “next horror movie” section. As always, it is recommended for everyone who enjoys such films. If you don’t like this genre, feel free to skip it. The film was made by a team of little-known authors from New Zealand and Argentina, and this is a great opportunity for them to unleash their potential, especially since horror doesn’t require a big budget.
You can get scared from July 4.
Fly Me to the Moon
Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum star in this action-packed comedy set against the backdrop of the historic Apollo 11 moon landing. When NASA’s image is about to collapse, talented marketer Kelly Jones launches an unprecedented promotional campaign to turn things around. In doing so, she makes the entire NASA team’s job of landing much more difficult. However, when the White House decides that the mission is too important to fail, Kelly is instructed to film a fake landing as a backup. The uncompromising struggle for supremacy begins.
The setting for this romantic comedy is quite unusual, involving flights to the moon, the inner workings of NASA, and the confrontation with the USSR in the “space race.” There are plenty of big names in the movie: Channing Tatum, Scarlett Johansson, Woody Harrelson, and an unusually large budget for projects of this genre of $100 million. The most important thing is that the filmmakers include Frank Sinatra’s song Fly me to the Moon in the movie, otherwise why would they have chosen this title for their project?
The premiere of the star-studded romantic comedy will take you to the moon on July 11.
Twisters
Kate Cooper (Daisy Edgar-Jones) is a former tornado chaser. She is haunted by memories of a catastrophic encounter with a tornado during her college years. Now Kate lives in New York City in complete safety, studying tornado models on computer monitors. One day, her friend Javi (Anthony Ramos) lures her back to the open plains to test a revolutionary new tornado tracking system. There, Kate meets Tyler Owens (Glen Powell), a charming and reckless social media superstar. Together with his irrepressible team, Tyler shows his followers the adventures of tornado chasers. And the more dangerous the chase, the better. As tornado season intensifies, terrifying phenomena like never before appear. Caught in the path of several storm systems bearing down on central Oklahoma, Kate, Tyler, and their teams are forced to fight for their lives.
A sequel to a 1996 movie called Twister. The original film had cool visual effects and even an Oscar nomination in this category, but lost to Independence Day, which was released the same year. “Tornadoes tells the story of the daughter of the protagonists of the previous part, who decided to continue her parents’ work and become a tornado hunter. Daisy Edgar-Jones plays the lead role, her first major film role, and is accompanied by Glen Powell and Anthony Ramos.
If you like disaster movies, then Twisters is definitely for you. The main thing is that the special effects don’t let you down.
The film will premiere on July 18.
Los colonos
Chile, early 20th century. A wealthy landowner sends three horsemen to mark the boundaries of his property in Tierra del Fuego. But the expedition soon turns into a bloody massacre. Then the young gunslinger Segundo, who accompanies the British soldier and the American mercenary, realizes that the true purpose of their journey is much more brutal and terrible.
The film itself was released a year ago and received many international awards, but Ukrainian audiences will only be able to appreciate it now. Many countries took part in the production of the western, but it can be considered a representative of Chilean cinema, because the director and most of the actors are from this country. If you like western movies and want to see the world of Tierra del Fuego, you should definitely watch it.
The premiere in Ukraine will take place on July 25.
Deadpool & Wolverine
Leading a quiet life, Wade Wilson is caught up in the organization Time Variance Authority (TVA), which forces him to return to his alter ego Deadpool and change history with the help of Wolverine.
Deadpool is back and literally bursting into the Marvel Cinematic Universe! After Disney bought Fox, fans of the talkative mercenary were afraid that the films would now become childish and lose all the excitement, but this did not happen. “Deadpool and Wolverine” is rated 18+, so there will be a lot of blood and swearing, which is exactly what the audience fell in love with the Deadpool character for.
After the announcement that Hugh Jackman was returning to the role of Wolverine, attention to the project grew steadily. Although Wolverine got a very touching ending in the Logan movie, it’s still very nice to see this character on screen again. In addition, director Shawn Levy said that this Wolverine is from another universe and will be different from the image we have seen before. The movie itself will be in the genre of badass movies, so we expect a cool interaction between the two iconic characters.
Unfortunately, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going through a rough patch, as the quality of films has deteriorated significantly over the past few years. Only occasionally have good projects been released, such as the Spider-Man threequel, the Guardians of the Galaxy, or the Loki series. Deadpool could breathe new life into this superhero franchise and finally complete the X-Men team that audiences have been waiting for since 2008.
The epic return of Deadpool and Wolverine will take place on July 27.

For those who haven’t found any new interesting films, the series segment in July will offer a lot of worthy new releases.
Sunny
The story follows Suzy, an American woman living in Japan, and Sunny, a domestic robot made by her husband’s company. Together, they uncover the dark truth about what really happened to Suzy’s husband and son, who disappeared in a mysterious plane crash.
A detective thriller based on the novel The Dark Handbook by Colin O’Sullivan. This is the second collaboration between A24 and Apple, so we expect something at least unusual and interesting.
The premiere will take place on Apple TV+ on July 10.
Sausage Party: Foodtopia
Frank and his friends establish a safe haven called Foodtopia. After a massive flood destroys their once-promised land, they have no choice but to team up with humans to ensure the survival of their race.
In 2016, Seth Rogen released a cartoon for adults called “Sausage Party” about food that starts a rebellion against people. I’ll never forget the ending of this cartoon in my life, and neither will most people who saw it. Now we have a sequel to look forward to. Food seems to have killed most people and now faces new challenges in an attempt to build its own “edible utopia”. Seth Rogen, Michael Cera, Kristen Wiig, and Edward Norton return to their voice acting roles.
The original cartoon was specific, but it had a cool idea and very tough humor. Let’s see if the authors will be able to develop the idea of the first part in a new 8-episode animated series on July 11 on Amazon Prime.
Those About to Die
The series explores a side of Rome that has never been told before – the dirty business of entertainment for the masses, giving the crowd what it craves most – blood and sport.
Ridley Scott once re-opened the peplum genre in modern times with his Gladiator, and many good series have been produced in the wake of the popularity of the ancient Rome theme. Just think of Spartacus or Rome, which are rightfully considered among the best in history. Unfortunately, the genre has since declined, and we haven’t seen any high-budget peplums for a long time. The latest is Ben-Hur’s 2016 remake, which turned out to be so mediocre that it was inferior to the 1959 original even in terms of chariot racing.
This year, we will see a real Renaissance of peplum, because in addition to the second part of Gladiator, we will also see the series Those About to Die. The series was directed by Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, 2012, The Day After Tomorrow), a controversial but generally cult director. Although his films have never been strong in terms of plot, he really knows how to make large-scale and impressive movies. The budget of the series was $140 million and believe me, you will see every dollar on the screen. Let’s hope that the director will be able to take us to this impressive but cruel world of gladiatorial fights.
The main role was played by Anthony Hopkins himself, and among the supporting actors you may know Ivan Rheon, who played Ramsay Bolton in Game of Thrones.
We are looking forward to the premiere of all episodes on July 18 at Peacock.
Lady in the Lake
Set in 1960s Baltimore, a journalist investigates an unsolved murder and encounters a woman who is trying to promote the interests of the city’s black community. The protagonist leaves her loving husband and a large house in Pikesville to pursue a career as a newspaper reporter. She becomes obsessed with solving the mystery of two separate murders: eleven-year-old Tessie Fine and bartender Cleo Sherwood.
A miniseries based on the novel of the same name by Laura Lippman. The writer herself was inspired by the investigation of two real-life murders in Baltimore that took place in her youth. The main role in the series is played by Natalie Portman, who does not need to be introduced. We are expecting a good plot and an interesting investigation, which will be seasoned with certain social aspects.
The first two episodes will premiere on July 19 on Apple TV+.
Time Bandits
The series follows a group of thieves and their newest recruit, an eleven-year-old botanist and historian, as they travel through time and space.
The authors of What We Do in the Shadows, Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, are working together again. Their new project is a series based on the 1981 film of the same name by legendary director Terry Gilliam. Gilliam himself was a member of the iconic Monty Python troupe, so the film was partially inspired by their style, and several other members of the group were involved.
The creators of the series starred as supporting actors, and the main role will be played by Lisa Kudrow, whom you know from the TV series Friends. In general, Clement and Waititi’s humor is unusual and not everyone will appreciate it, but I think you can’t find better authors for such a movie, because they are fans of Monty Python’s work and their works even show the influence of this troupe. In general, we are waiting for something interesting to come out.
And if you don’t know anything about Monty Python, we recommend that you watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail and The Life of Brian according to Monty Python! And, of course, Time Bandits is a separate project from the troupe, but with their strong vibes.
The premiere will take place on July 24 on Apple TV+.
The Decameron
Set in 1348 during the Black Death, the deadliest pandemic in human history, the film explores the relevant themes of class systems, power struggles, and survival during a pandemic.
I’m actually very surprised that Netflix has decided to film this monumental work of Boccaccio only now. Considering the series the service has made before, the plot about ten wealthy young men and women who have a lot of fun in the countryside during the plague and tell each other different stories was a natural fit. In the original, some of the characters’ stories will give a smoke to the most depraved Netflix series. I’m looking forward to the movie adaptation of the chapter where they taught us how to “drive the devil to hell.” But seriously, each story in The Decameron perfectly conveys the mood of the era and criticizes it, including a strong instructional element. I hope that the Netflix writers still understand the essence of the original and will not turn the adaptation of one of the greatest works of European literature into something unintelligible.
All 8 episodes will premiere on July 25 on Netflix.

A new section at the request of readers. Since these aren’t new series, I’ll briefly remind you of the main continuations of your favorite projects.
The other half of Futurama season 8
The first half of Hulu’s season 8 caused controversial emotions among fans, but in general, the episodes are not bad and some episodes were really good. On July 29, the second half of the season will be released, which contains 10 episodes. I hope the authors will really surprise us this time!
Vikings: Valhalla 3 сезон
The final season of the Vikings spinoff. Fans of this franchise should mark their calendars for July 11, when all episodes of the season will be released on Netflix.
Cobra Kai 6 сезон
The final season of the sequel to the 1984 cult film The Karate Kid will be released in parts, and the first batch of episodes will be available on Netflix on July 18.
