At first glance, the end of summer doesn’t look very bright for those who are waiting for new movies and TV shows. There really aren’t too many high-profile premieres, but movie and TV fans will still be able to find something interesting. To facilitate this task, we have prepared our traditional material about new movies and TV series in August 2024.
Borderlands
A notorious criminal with a mysterious past, Lilith, arrives on the planet Pandora. She is tasked with finding a missing girl, the daughter of the evil, powerful and unpredictable Atlas. Lilith gathers a team to help her, but only strange losers agree to her proposal. Roland used to be a mercenary, Tiny Tina, accompanied by big Krieg, is obsessed with explosions, and scientist Patricia Tannis doesn’t always understand what’s going on around her. There is a small robot in the team, but sometimes it seems that it has pirated software.
In recent years, Hollywood has been making more and more game adaptations, and this time it’s the turn of the popular shooter with RPG elements Borderlands. The original projects were remembered for their crazy gags, the atmosphere of madness, and the ease with which the plot was presented. Unfortunately, the comic book style of the game, which became its specialty and influenced the entire gaming industry, did not migrate to the big screens. But the cast was generally well chosen, and there are enough well-known names. Among them: Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Jack Black. The film was directed by Eli Roth, who knows how to make trashy movies and will definitely be able to convey the atmosphere of the game.
The premiere in Ukraine will take place on August 8.
Des Teufels Bad
A girl from a poor family gets married and settles in a remote house in the middle of a dense forest. Her husband’s world is completely alien to her, and her dreams of having a child become an impossible burden. With each passing day of heavy routine and vain hopes, she closes in on herself more and more. Until she finds herself on a dark path that leads to evil thoughts. Perhaps not just thoughts…
The film has already won the Silver Bear award at the Berlin International Film Festival and is likely to be nominated for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. But this is a specific and sometimes very violent work that will definitely not appeal to everyone. But art house fans should definitely try it.
The premiere will take place on August 8.
Ein ganzes Leben
The beginning of the 20th century. Orphaned Andreas is taken into the care of a ruthless uncle on a farm in a remote valley. The boy is treated not as family but as a hired hand, and his childhood is filled with cruelty. When the young man finally leaves his oppressor, he finds himself working on a project that marks the beginning of alpine tourism – a mountain cable car. His new job opens up new life prospects, and very soon Andreas finds love. But a world war breaks out on the horizon.
An adaptation of the bestselling novel by Robert Zetaler. The story of the difficult life of a guy named Andreas in the first half of the 20th century in the picturesque Alps. In recent years, German cinema has only been pleasing moviegoers, and I’m sure that A Whole Life will be no exception.
The Ukrainian premiere will take place on August 8.
Alien: Romulus
Rein and her colleagues arrive at a long-abandoned space station. Together, they are going to empty the old ship’s interior. However, their discovery can change the course of history, because it is the most dangerous life form in the universe.
The series of movies about our favorite Xenomorph has a fate similar to the Terminator movies, because there are two cool parts, and then everything is very difficult. On the other hand, Alien has more potential to tell a good story, unlike its “metal” counterpart. Unfortunately, no matter what the background, it always comes down to hunting people in a cramped space. It’s also a pity that the main characters degrade more and more with each installment. While in the first movie, space truckers wore protective suits when they came into contact with another life form, quarantined themselves and really cared about their safety, judging by the trailer for Romulus, no one cares about this. Let’s hope that this is just a convention so that the plot can happen and the movie itself will actually be good. Fans of Alien and people who like space horror should definitely go.
The Ukrainian premiere will take place on August 15.
My Penguin Friend
Penguins are amazing creatures known for their family loyalty. The film tells the story of a young penguin named Ding Ding who is separated from his flock. But one day he is found by a broken-hearted fisherman, and this becomes the beginning of a strong friendship.
A heartwarming story based on real events. The main role is played by Jean Reno, who is always a pleasure to see on the big screen. This is a universal movie that can appeal to all categories of viewers, because how can you not love penguins?
You will be able to watch Ding Dong’s adventures on August 15.
The Witch of Konotop
An ancient witch from Konotop, having fallen in love with an ordinary boy, has long renounced her witchy powers, but after Russian soldiers capture the town and brutally kill her lover, she decides to take revenge, regains her powers and inflicts horrific and bloody punishments on the heads and other parts of the bodies of her fiancé’s killers.
A movie in which the Konotop Witch brutally kills Russian soldiers? I’m urgently buying tickets to the front row, you have to see it! It’s literally an adaptation of the song “Enemy” by Angie Kreida, which was featured in the trailer and I hope will be used in the movie itself. The main roles are played by Tatiana Malkova, Taras Tsymbalyuk and Olena Khokhlatkina.
The movie comes out on August 22 and it will be a great option to go to the movies on Independence Day.

There are not many new series this month, but there are interesting projects.
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder
Five years after the death of a 17-year-old girl in a quiet English town, one determined student tries to find the real killer.
British detective TV series based on the novel of the same name by Holly Jackson. The main role was played by Emma Myers, whom you may know from the TV series Wednesday.
The premiere took place on August 1 on Netflix.
Bad Monkey
A former detective has been kicked out of Miami Metro and has to work as a restaurant inspector in the Florida Keys. A new and unusual case may bring him back to the department if he can overcome a bunch of weirdos and one bad monkey.
The series is based on the novel of the same name by Carl Hiaasen. The original work was praised for its lightness and uniquely conveyed atmosphere of South Florida, which we can now experience in action. The film stars Vince Vaughn, Michelle Monaghan and Jodie Turner-Smith. The trailer looks very dynamic, and Vince Vaughn shines with his charisma.
The first two episodes will be released on August 14 on Apple TV+.
Kaos
Discord reigns on Mount Olympus, the almighty Zeus has fallen into paranoia, and three mortals are destined to change the future of humanity.
A black comedy from the creator of the series “The End of the F***ing World” Charlie Covell’s film about the Greek gods in modern times. Hera, Poseidon, Hades, and other representatives of the Greek pantheon personify the worst human qualities, but the biggest “schizo” among them is Zeus, played by Jeff Goldblum. Overall, the project looks promising.
The premiere will take place on August 29 on Netflix.
Terminator Zero
A warrior from the post-apocalyptic future travels back to 1997 to protect an artificial intelligence scientist who is being hunted by an indestructible cyborg.
An anime based on the Terminator universe and set in Japan. In fact, it’s a great opportunity to tell a new story without stupid plots like “you averted the end of the world, but only for 5 days, so you have to change the past again.” Unfortunately, the original Terminator is voiced not by Arnold Schwarzenegger, but by Timothy Olyphant. The animation looks good, and we hope the story will be up to par.
The premiere will take place on August 29 on Netflix.

A small bonus – new seasons of old interesting series coming out this month.
The Umbrella Academy 4 сезон
The final season of the popular superhero series will be released on Netflix on August 8. Unfortunately, instead of the usual 10 episodes, the finale will contain only 6.
Solar Opposites Season 5
A new season of the popular sitcom and the second one without the project’s creator, Justin Roiland, who was fired due to domestic violence allegations. If you like Rick and Morty, the series has a very similar spirit. It premieres on August 12 on Hulu.
Emily in Paris Season 4
You can watch the continuation of Emily Cooper’s adventures in Paris on August 15 on Netflix.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2
You will be able to watch how evil is destroying John Tolkien’s legacy on August 29 on Prime Video. The creators of the series promised to improve the quality of the project compared to the first season, but this is not certain. The series has a similar fate to The Witcher adaptation: fans are not satisfied, but ordinary viewers are watching.
