Playing games that you never got around to before or nostalgically replaying your favorite games seems to be the answer to the question “What to play in June 2024”. Frankly speaking, there are a lot of interesting new releases. Yes, the biggest announcement in our current roundup is probably the DLC for Elden Ring. But we were ready for it: interesting games are usually released in the fall. However, in June 2024, we’re looking forward to an expanded re-release of the quite worthy Shin Megami Tensei 5 for all platforms, an original game about the liquidators of the Chernobyl disaster, and several games that can scare the living daylights out of you.

Mars Colonization Expedition: Survival Simulator

It is still quite difficult to say anything specific about this game. There was no high-profile campaign or even English-language trailers on YouTube at the time of writing. There was only one video, a few screenshots, and a scant description on Nintendo’s website.

We are looking at a simulator of a Red Planet explorer. The player will have to face the harsh conditions of Mars, recreated, according to the developers, with stunning realism based on data from real scientific missions.

So, we, as part of a team of researchers, find ourselves on Mars, where we need to build a settlement and ensure its survival and prosperity. Lack of materials and harsh conditions will force players to carefully plan and allocate vital resources. The developers promise interesting research, expeditions, and geological exploration.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game

Some may remember the trashy comedy horror movie Killer Clowns from Outer Space, released in 1988. It was the movie where a couple in love saw a “meteorite” fall, but at the site of the collision they found not the wreckage of a space body, but a circus tent full of killer clowns who need earthlings as a healthy protein.

In the game, the circus landing party lands near a small American town. We’re looking at an asymmetrical multiplayer horror like the genre-defining Dead by Daylight, where three players take on the role of bloodthirsty guests in makeup and use a variety of abilities to hunt a team of locals (seven players). Potential victims of the clowns have to hide and complete several consecutive tasks to escape. It is nice that the tasks can differ from party to party. For example, players will need to find the keys to the bunker, fuel canisters, and access cards. Most often, you need to run away from the clowns, but sometimes there is a solution with weakening and then killing the clowns.

Autopsy Simulator

A somewhat unconventional game that frightens not so much with its content as with its concept: we are looking at a pathologist simulator with horror elements. Here, the player will have to perform autopsies, compare evidence, and determine the exact cause of death of those who find themselves in this virtual morgue. A lot of attention was paid to the autopsy process: the developers consulted with real forensic experts and pathologists.

In addition to the main, extremely specific simulation, the game has an interesting story. We play as a forensic scientist who, during an autopsy of an unknown woman, finds his late wife’s wedding ring in her body. This moment triggers a series of mysterious events. As you progress through the game, new details of this mysterious case will be revealed to us.

Blockbuster Inc

Blockbuster Inc. is a movie studio simulator that takes you into the magical world of the movie industry. In the game, you are the head of a studio, responsible for all aspects of film production: from creating scripts and hiring actors to managing budgets and marketing.

The player will have to make difficult decisions and strategic choices that will determine the fate of the studio. Blockbuster Inc. allows you to create your own movies from scratch, hire and manage actors and crew, manage budgets and marketing, explore different genres and eras of cinema, compete with other studios for the title of the best, and earn money by expanding your empire.

Chornobyl Liquidators

The Chernobyl disaster inspired many game developers. Usually, such creations are based on a mystical background. Polish developers from Live Motion Games and Frozen Way decided to tackle the topic of the Chernobyl tragedy in a slightly different way. This time, there are no stalkers, paranormal events or mutants. Only the sad and heroic prose of life that real liquidators of the accident had to face. The game can be considered a simulator.

The player will have to go to the epicenter of the disaster, explore destroyed buildings, put out fires in the reactor ruins, eliminate fuel leaks, clean up areas from radioactive graphite, rescue people, and even kill infected animals. The developers promise a lot of interesting locations recreated with historical accuracy and situations with difficult moral choices that will affect the development of the plot.

Dragon is Dead

In the world of this fantasy action-platformer with rougelike elements, all the dragons who challenged the gods were destroyed. Only one survived – Gernien, the leader of the dark dragons. He has lost everyone and is now ready to infect the world with filth. We play as a dragon fighter whose mission is to cleanse the world of filth and defeat Gernien. The game will feature a variety of characters, each with a different style and aptitudes, an extensive leveling system with a combination of skills, weapon crafting, and artifact power-up runes. In the early access, we will have 8 chapters and two playable characters.

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance

The improved and expanded edition of the fifth installment of the famous Shin Megami Tensei series is now available not only on Nintendo Switch but also on other platforms.

The game is set in modern Tokyo and its hellish incarnation. The main character, as is often the case in the series, is a schoolboy. On his way back from school, he decides to bypass the scene of a terrible crime through a tunnel, but it suddenly collapses on his head. The boy wakes up in an alternative version of Tokyo, transformed into a sandy desert filled with demons. He learns about the war between angels and demons and somehow unites with a mysterious stranger, becoming a “nahobino” – a half-demon with outstanding abilities.

The battles here, as always in the series, are turn-based. And, just like always, you can talk to demons and lure them to your side, as well as mix them to create other demons with inherited and new abilities.

Vengeance is the same Shin Megami Tensei V, but with additional content and improvements. The developers have added an alternative storyline that tells about the revenge of the fallen, new areas, additional plot solutions, and new demons. Vengeance also promises improved graphics, a combat system, and new music tracks.

#BLUD

If you love cartoons from the late nineties and early twenty-first century, the graphics and story of this game may make you feel unrestrainedly nostalgic. That’s because #BLUD looks exactly like the animations of those times. So when you watch the trailer, you don’t immediately realize that it’s a game.

In this role-playing action game, we play as a high school girl who has recently moved to the city and entered Carpentersville High School. But she’s not just a schoolgirl, she’s the last of a long line of wizards and vampire slayers. And in her new place, she will have something to do besides lessons, because she has to save the city from the invasion of demonic forces. The game is not set in the nineties, by the way, because you can search for nests of evil spirits through social networks, and the weaknesses of demons are revealed in selfies.

In addition to cool graphics and humor, the game promises a lot of dungeons and interesting characters, a vampire-killing club leveling system, and the disclosure of eerie secrets.

Still Wakes the Deep

The developers call Still Wakes the Deep a symphony of action, anxiety, fear, and subtle emotions, where every step can be the last, and the sounds from a dark corridor can scare you. In the game, you will find yourself on a drilling platform in the North Sea in 1975. After the disaster, the platform lost contact with the outside world and began to sink. The player takes on the role of a worker who is left alone with terrible events and tries to survive on this shaky and unreliable structure. In Still Wakes the Deep, you can explore half-flooded corridors, look for other team members, and hide from a cruel enemy.

According to the release trailers, the game will be very atmospheric, with great graphics powered by Unreal Engine 5.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree (DLC)

Although Shadow of the Erdtre is not a separate game, but only DLC, it has a special status. Firstly, it is the only addition to Elden Ring, according to the game’s creator Hidetaka Miyazaki, so you shouldn’t expect any others. Secondly, it is quite large in scale: players will get about 30 hours of playing time and a lot of new content. Thirdly, the price of the expansion on Steam and the PlayStation Store is 1199 UAH, which is also impressive in a way.

Fans of the fantasy action movie will be able to go on a journey to the Land of Shadows. These are new locations that are located in the shadow of the Tree of Erd. The developers promise many new challenging bosses, interesting characters, unique locations, and a long storyline. Hidetaka Miyazaki said that it is better to start playing the expansion when you are already close to the middle of the original Elden Ring. However, this is only the author’s recommendation.
