Samsung continues to develop its flagship Galaxy S line of smartphones and updates it with Galaxy S24 Ultra, S24, and S24+ models with Galaxy AI artificial intelligence features. Let’s take a closer look at the new features of Samsung’s flagships.
Let’s start with the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The body of the novelty did not receive any dramatic changes in design, the company continued to evolve it, improving individual elements.
One of these innovations is an even flatter front panel. This is a logical step, given the presence of the S Pen – one of the main features of this model. After all, less rounded glass means more usable screen area.
Another already mentioned innovation is the use of a titanium rather than aluminum case frame. This is, first of all, an interesting step in terms of aesthetics; the grind of titanium and its color are completely different, and it is visually noticeable.
The familiar design looks fresher. The Galaxy S24 Ultra will also be the first smartphone with the new Gorilla Glass Armor, which, according to the manufacturer, has better scratch and impact resistance.
The Galaxy S24 and S24+ have a similar design, but the body is of different sizes.
They use a frame made of reinforced aluminum and Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
Smartphones have flat edges, and thanks to an improved internal design, the bezels around their screens have become thinner.
All three models are traditionally IP68 water and dust resistant for Samsung flagships.
The top-of-the-line Galaxy S24 Ultra model also has smaller bezels, while the display diagonal has not changed and is 6.8-inches. Samsung has used a new Dynamic AMOLED 2X matrix with a peak brightness of 2600 nits, QHD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 1 to 120 Hz. The use of Gorilla Glass Armor has reduced glare by 75%, which is clearly visible in bright light.
The younger Galaxy S24 and S24+ models have slightly larger screens without significantly affecting the size of the body thanks to smaller bezels: 6.2-inch FHD+ and 6.7-inch QHD+ screens. For the first time, they keep pace with the Ultra model, and also offer a peak brightness of 2600 nits and a refresh rate of 1 to 120 Hz.
Interestingly, Samsung’s new flagships use different platforms. The Galaxy S24 Ultra has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor for Galaxy, as well as Adreno 750 graphics. The smartphone also has 12 GB of RAM as standard and 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB of storage. The top-of-the-line model has Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3.
The Galaxy S24 and S24+ in Ukraine will be available with an Exynos 2400 processor and Xclipse 940 graphics based on AMD RDNA 3 architecture. The junior flagship S24 offers 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of storage. The Galaxy S24+ has been upgraded in this regard with 12 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of internal storage. Both models are equipped with Wi-Fi 6e and Bluetooth 5.3 wireless modules.
Samsung’s new flagships run on Android 14 with the company’s proprietary One UI 6.1 interface, which now offers new Galaxy AI features. These include real-time translation of phone calls, Chat Assist in the keyboard to help with texting, automatic text formatting in Samsung Notes, wallpaper generation, and the ability to search Google by simply outlining objects in images using the S24 Ultra’s S Pen.
Not all AI capabilities are available in Ukraine yet, but Samsung is actively working on adding them and plans to activate most of them in the summer of 2024.
Like the previous generation, Samsung’s new flagships have an advanced set of cameras. The Galaxy S24 Ultra has a total of four main modules:
- Wide-angle 200 MP (f/1.7, 23mm, 1/1.3″, OIS, Laser AF);
- Ultra-wide 12 MP (f/2.2, 13 mm, 1/2.55″);
- 10 MP telephoto (f/2.4, 69 mm, 1/3.52″, PDAF, OIS, 3x zoom);
- Telephoto 50 MP (f/3.4, 115 mm, 1/2.51″, OIS, 5x zoom).
Thanks to the use of new AI-based algorithms, S24 Ultra cameras offer improved detail. In addition, a new night mode for 5x optical zoom is now available. This was really missing in previous generations.
The Galaxy S24 and S24+ cameras offer three main modules:
- Wide-angle 50 MP (f/1.8,23 mm, 1/1.56, OIS);
- Ultra-wide 12 MP (f/2.2, 13 mm, 1/2.55);
- Telephoto 10 MP (t/2.4, 69 mm, 1/3.94″, OIS, 3x zoom).
Their characteristics have not changed, but Samsung has also updated the software for better post-processing.
All three smartphones have 12-megapixel front cameras.
An interesting addition to the shooting capabilities of the new Galaxy flagship lineup is the photo editing functions in the standard gallery thanks to new artificial intelligence options. The smartphones now provide automatic recommendations for improving pictures, can add necessary details to photos, and can delete or move objects.
That is, literally, if you fail to properly scan the subject, you can later do so by moving it to the desired location without using third-party programs to process the images.
For audio and media playback, the new models offer loud stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos spatial sound support.
The capacity of the battery built into the Galaxy S24 Ultra has not changed and is 5000 mAh with support for charging up to 45 W. At the same time, the S24 and S24+ received larger batteries: the S24 has a capacity of up to 4000 mAh and supports charging up to 25W, and the S24+ has a capacity of up to 4900 mAh, which can be recharged with a charger up to 45W.
At first glance, we have quite interesting updates that we will soon be able to test in full-fledged reviews to draw full conclusions about their capabilities. So far, we can say for sure that the Galaxy S series will now focus not only on camera capabilities but also on AI, so it’s already clear in which direction One UI will develop, and we will see more innovations in Samsung’s flagships related to artificial intelligence.
