SoftBank Group CEO Masayoshi Son believes that general artificial intelligence (AGI) will appear "much sooner" than he thought. He said this during an event in Tokyo, The Verge reports citing The Wall Street Journal.
Interestingly, the timing of the creation of general artificial intelligence, as well as the concept itself, is widely discussed by many AI researchers.
According to some forecasts, the technology could appear as early as 2026, as Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said last fall. Instead, Meta's chief AI developer Ian LeCun is convinced that humanity is still far from AGI.
The day before, Masayoshi Son announced an agreement with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to establish a joint venture in Japan to provide AI services to corporate clients.
Also, the Japanese investment giant will pay $3 billion annually for the use of OpenAI technologies in SoftBank Group companies.
