Apple failed to implement the updated CarPlay in 2024, but did not abandon the project

- 24 January, 05:12 PM

In June 2022, Apple demonstrated a new version of CarPlay with iOS 16. It provided for a significant update of the approach, where integration with the iPhone concerned not only the media display but also the dashboard and additional screens in the car. At the end of 2023, the first models supporting the "next generation of CarPlay" were to appear.

However, the implementation took much longer than expected. In 2023, none of the announced automakers had support for the new version of CarPlay. Later, the page dedicated to the feature on Apple's website changed the waiting time.

Throughout 2024, the inscription "First models arrive in 2024" could be seen there until the end. But the long-awaited release never happened. However, we still hope to see it.

9to5Mac published a comment from Apple on this issue:

We continue to work closely with several automakers, enabling them to showcase their unique brand and visual design philosophies in the next generation of CarPlay.

Therefore, now Apple does not even indicate manufacturers that plan to implement support for the new generation of CarPlay and does not share the estimated waiting time. Moreover, such a delay is not very typical for the company as a whole (a similar situation is currently happening with Apple Intelligence functions).

It is currently unknown with which manufacturers and models the new generation of CarPlay will be available. However, apparently, Apple has not abandoned the project, and we will see its implementation over time.
