Dragon Age: The Veilguard by BioWare did not meet the expectations of publisher Electronic Arts. The company is also not satisfied with the financial performance of EA Sports FC. Jason Schreier of Bloomberg writes about it.
In the third fiscal quarter of 2024, EA's revenues fell to about $2.22 billion, instead of the expected $2.4 billion to $2.55 billion. The company relied on a new game from BioWare and in-game purchases in EA Sports FC.
In view of this, the company has lowered its forecasted revenue in FY2025 to approximately $7 billion to $7.15 billion. EA's previous forecast was between $7.5 billion and $7.8 billion.
Electronic Arts puts most of the blame on its football game EA Sports FC 2025, which was released in September 2024 and received mixed reviews from players.
The role-playing game Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which was released in October 2024 after a difficult development cycle, attracted 1.5 million players in the quarter, which is about 50% less than the company expected.
"We remain confident in our long-term strategy and expect a return to growth in FY26, as we execute against our pipeline," commented EA CEO Andrew Wilson.
The company plans to report more detailed financial results on February 4, 2025.
