Microsoft is changing the way users log in to their accounts. Starting from February 2025, users will automatically remain logged in to their accounts unless they log out or use the private browser mode, The Verge reports.

Now, when you sign in to your Microsoft account, you have the choice of whether to stay logged in to your computer. Changing to automatic sign-in means that to protect your account on public computers, you will have to use private browsing mode or remember to sign out when you are done.

In case the user still forgets to log out of their account on any PC, Microsoft allows them to force log out in all browsers, applications, and other places where they use it, except for the Xbox console.

These changes to the Microsoft account sign-in process came after the company added support for Passkeys. This technology replaces traditional passwords with cryptographic keys associated with a device, such as a fingerprint, PIN, or facial recognition. This increases security by reducing the risk of using weak passwords and protecting against phishing attacks and data breaches.
