A new film by A24 studio The Brutalist, a likely Oscar contender, used artificial intelligence to create accents in characters and generate some images. It was reported by RedShark News.
The film tells the story of a fictional Hungarian architect (played by Adrien Brody) who tries to make art in the changing system of American capitalism.
To make the Hungarian pronunciation of Brody and his co-star Felicity Jones as accurate as possible, the crew used artificial intelligence from Respeecher.
“You can do this in ProTools yourself, but we had so much dialogue in Hungarian that we really needed to speed up the process otherwise we’d still be in post,” says the film’s editor, Dávid Jancsó.
According to Jancsó, generative AI was also used to create architectural drawings that appear at the end of the movie. Both decisions were made due to the budgetary constraints of the film production.
