The MacBook Air with M4 could be Apple’s first new product in 2025. 9to5Mac notes several possible additions that will be key to the manufacturer’s next ultrabook. Of course, apart from the obvious updated processor.
Thus, according to the publication’s expectations, with an updated chip, the MacBook Air can add autonomy. For example, last year’s MacBook Pro, with no changes in battery capacity and only the new M4 Pro/Max chips, added two hours to the expected operating time. The iPad Pro, on the other hand, has significantly reduced its body thickness, leaving less space for the battery, but the battery life of the tablets has not changed.
And since there are no updates to the MacBook Air’s design this year, you can potentially expect an increase in operating time.
Another thing that may improve in the new ultrabooks is the maximum amount of RAM. Last year, all Macs received an increase in the minimum amount of RAM to 16 GB. The most basic MacBook Pro with M4 chips can now be equipped with up to 32 GB.
Current MacBook Air models offer 16GB or 24GB options. And the publication expects that with the release of the new MBAs with M4, they will also have an option with 32 GB of RAM.
An additional separation between the MacBook Air and Pro lines is the ability of the latter to work with more external monitors at the same time. Currently, the MacBook Air with M3 can work with either one connected monitor or two if you close the laptop. The base MacBook Pro with M4 is still able to work with two external displays and a built-in display.
Among other things, the MacBook Air has not yet received a 12-megapixel webcam, which is available in Pro models. It adds the Center Stage feature. For users who spend a lot of time in online meetings or frequently communicate with loved ones from a distance, this can be useful in some way.
Finally, the MacBook Air with M4 would also benefit from the Nano-texture display coating option. This is a kind of matte version of matrix protection, which MacBook Pro has recently mastered after the branded Pro Display XDR and Apple Studio Display monitors.
Since the MacBook Air is designed to work in a wide variety of environments, this option would be useful for some users who often work on the go or in bright light, sunlight, etc.
Last year, MacBook Air received a new version in March. Therefore, the wait for a model with M4 is potentially not that long.
