It’s finally happened! We’ve been hearing rumors about an update to the Tesla Model Y electric crossover codenamed Juniper for quite some time now, and here’s the first official information and photos. However, all of this first appeared on Tesla’s Chinese website. However, given Musk’s current behavior, this is not surprising.
But let’s go back to the Tesla Model Y Juniper electric car itself – and what do we see? The Cybertruck-style design is immediately noticeable: a straight line between the hood and front bumper, small upwardly curved ends on the right and left. These are not headlights – in fact, the main headlights are located one level lower and integrated into the front bumper. Also, the updated 4.8-meter Tesla Model Y electric car attracts attention with a modified rear end with a solid lantern. In addition, new 19- or 20-inch wheels and a new body color have been announced.
The new Tesla Model Y has a slightly modified interior: a completely new steering wheel, a 15.4-inch touchscreen display in front, and a separate 8-inch display for rear passengers. The first electric cars will be offered exclusively in the Launch Edition and Teslarati claims that such electric cars will also be additionally distinguished by various logos, extended equipment, and improved interior materials. Other interesting highlights of the Tesla Model Y include an autonomous driving system with advanced capabilities and a front-view camera for numerous functions: monitoring the situation on the road, triggering emergency safety systems, and driving the electric vehicle in summon mode.
As for the technical part, it is currently known that Tesla Model Y will be launched in two versions – rear-wheel drive and a standard battery (range up to 593 km on the CLTC cycle) or the maximum version with all-wheel drive and an extended battery (range up to 719 km on the CLTC cycle). The AWD version of the Tesla Model Y will be able to accelerate to “hundreds” in 4.3 seconds and charge with a maximum power of up to 250 kW. The Tesla Model Y RWD electric vehicle will offer acceleration to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds and support charging with a maximum capacity of 170 kW.
The cost of the Tesla Model Y electric vehicle for the Chinese market is already known: the rear-wheel drive version starts at 263,500 yuan (about $36,000), while the all-wheel drive version starts at 303,500 yuan (about $41,000). Orders are already open, with sales and delivery to customers starting in March. Information about the updated Tesla Model Y for the US and European markets will be announced later.
